When actor Toby Osmond was cast to portray a Dornish Prince in the Game of Thrones series finale, “The Iron Throne,” the character didn’t officially have a name. “Someone mentioned a possible name, but I think it was an invented name,” he told Screen Rant. “So it would have just been a series name.”
It sounds like, so far as the script was concerned, who the character wasn’t as important as the fact that Dorne at least be represented at the meeting in the Dragonpit. Still, Osmond was aware of fan theories as to who his character might be. “A lot of people have suggested Quentyn Martell, of course,” he said, naming an unused character from George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels. “But just doing the math, I thought, well, Prince Doran’s kid… I’m just, I’m too old, unfortunately.”
"There’s no way I could be a brother of Trystane because he could probably be my son, to be honest. So I just figured I was the younger brother of Doran and the Red Viper. Or, there was an interesting fan theory about another house in [Sunspeare] and Dorne, I can’t remember the name of it. But I’d like to think that I’m a Martell."
Sounds like Osmond did his homework for the role. So far as the chances of him being a Martell go, Quentyn was never mentioned in the show and Trystane was killed in King’s Landing by the Sand Snakes. When Doran asked about his son as he lay dying, Ellaria told him that, “Weak men will never rule Dorne again.” So it sounds like the Martells are gone?

Anyway, the actor gushed a bit about Pedro Pascal’s turn as Prince Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne and easily the best character to come out of the region. “And Pedro Pascal , what a fantastic character as well, I was shocked. I was like ‘are you sure you’re casting ME as his younger brother,’ which is what I was assuming it was.”
"Also, fun fact, I was given his scimitar, his sword that was custom made for his character,. But he never used it. He used his spear of course. So yeah, on set, I had this beautiful snake-headed scimitar. It had, I think it was a cobra on the top of the hilt. And then the cross guard heads were snakes as well. Beautiful, beautiful sword."
Maybe Osmund’s character got a hold of Oberyn’s scimitar and used it as a symbol to win the trust of the Dornish people and become their new Prince? Or maybe he’s just a heretofore unmentioned Martell brother. In any case, some stuff clearly went down offscreen. Feel free to speculate wildly in the comments.
