Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) is “really proud” of her Game of Thrones ending

Nathalie Emmanuel, better known to most of us Game of Thrones fans as Missandei of Naath, had a lot to say about her Game of Thrones journey while speaking with Net-A-Porter last month, shortly after her death scene in “The Last of the Starks.” Let’s travel back to time to literally a day after Missandei’s brutal beheading. “I suddenly feel like she’s no longer in existence,” Emmanuel said, “she’s now a character from the past, and that feels different.”

Not everyone was on board with the way Missandei went out, arguing that it reduced the character to an inspiration for Daenerys to go mad, but Emmanuel begs to differ. “In that last scene, you felt her fear but also her strength and her bravery. I love that ‘f*** you’ [moment] she had, right at the very end. I was really proud of it.”

That “Dracarys” scene was one of Emmanuel’s strongest as an actor; she packed a lot of feeling into that one word. It still gives me goosebumps all these weeks later!

But of course, I was crushed that Missandei’s death meant the end of her relationship with Grey Worm. It broke my heart to know the two of them wouldn’t be sunbathing on the beaches of Naath together. But hey, at least Grey Worm is going to fulfill that dream for the both of them. “Some of the greatest love stories don’t have a happy ending,” Emmanuel said. “People have commented that as soon as they saw Missandei and Grey Worm making plans, it was, like, ‘Well, one of them is definitely going to die now.’”

And I was most certainly one of those people, but it didn’t make the early ending any easier to take.

As for season 8 filming stories, Emmanuel actually off pretty easy, because she wasn’t in any of the infamously grueling battle shoots. “[T]hey did 11 weeks of night shoots [for the Battle of Winterfell], and I wasn’t upset to miss that,” she laughed. “People were losing their minds, working at night in the cold and the rain, and I was in Morocco, like, ‘Sorry that’s happening. Namaste, guys.’”

As with many of the cast members, Game of Thrones forever changed Emmanuel’s career, providing her with opportunities that she otherwise could never have imagined. Before her first episode of Thrones even aired, her buzz lander her a spot in the Fast and the Furious franchise, and she’ll soon appear in a leading role in Mindy Kaling’s take on Four Weddings and a Funeral, which will premiere on Hulu as a mini-series.

Nathalie Emmanuel is goals and we simply can’t wait to see what she does next!
