Colin Trevorrow’s vision for Star Wars: Episode IX lives on at Galaxy’s Edge

Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park is full of little gems and nods to the franchise, including some that never made it on screen.

If you’ll recall, once upon a time, Colin Trevorrow was slated to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, but was eventually taken off the project and replaced with The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams. Even though Trevorrow didn’t get to make the movie, part of his original vision survives in the theme park. Upon entering, guests will immediately recognize ships like the Millenium Falcon or an X-Wing fighter. According to Trevorrow, nestled amongst them will be something you don’t recognize: a ship of his design.

"The Imagineering team asked us to develop a new ship for the park while we were designing the film. I took it pretty seriously — it’s not every day you get to be a part of something like that. … It was part of an upgraded First Order fleet. An armed troop transport — the equivalent of a Blackhawk stealth helicopter. We wanted it to evoke memories of earlier ships while still being its own thing."

I’m sure it’s a bittersweet feeling for him to see his work displayed in the park and not onscreen. Ah, well; at least he can always go Galaxy’s Edge and see what could have been. It was nice of Disney to keep the ship part of the park. “I love that ship,” he told Collider. “Put my ashes in it, man.”
