Avengers: Endgame returning to theaters with new post-credits scene

Avengers: Endgame is unique among Marvel movies in that it doesn’t have a post-credits scene, something that gives the audience an extra laugh before leaving the theater, or that sets up a future movie. Marvel became famous for these scenes pretty early on, all the way back in 2008’s Iron Man when Samuel L. Jackson came to recruit Tony Stark into the Avengers:

And yes, I do think of that character as Samuel L. Jackson first and Nick Fury second. I can’t help it.

Anyway, it made sense that Endgame wouldn’t have a post-credits scene. It is, as the name implies, the endgame. It’s the conclusion of this leg of the Marvel Cinematic Universe story; what’s it going to tease?

We’re about to find out. Endgame is being rereleased into theaters this weekend. Speaking to Screenrant, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that viewers can expect a little something extra:

"Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend."

Most likely, the post-credits scene will tease the adventures of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which opens a couple weekends later. We’ve got to thread it all together.

A rerelease could also help Endgame get over the hump and edge out Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time, a title it’s still a few dozen million dollars short of claiming. So close
