Stranger Things gets patriotic in another new trailer for season 3
By Dan Selcke
The third season of Stranger Things is just around the corner, and between the stream of trailers and teasers and corporate partnerships, Netflix isn’t letting us forget it.
But eh, I’m okay with the deluge if the trailers stay this fun. The theme of newest teaser, which dropped the other day on Twitter, is “AMERICA”!
“You can’t spell America without Erica.” Accurate. Glad to see that particular fan favorite will be getting more screentime in season 3, What say you, Twitter?
Thoughts so.

Anyway, seeing as the third season drops on July 4, all the American iconography makes sense. The fireworks, the mall, the marching band, the American flag blindfold Eleven wears…they’re doing a whole thing.
I like that Strangers Things knows not to take itself too seriously. Yes, there are lots of dark corners to this show, but it’s still an ’80s pastiche about interdimensional monsters. Bring on Eleven grappling with her powers. Bring on kids growing apart as the perils of puberty tear at their friend group. But also bring on Steve Harington miming playing a trumpet to “Stars and Stripes Forever” and battling evil in his ridiculous malt shop uniform. There’s room for everyone!
