Daisy Ridley talks lightsabers, Kylo Ren, and The Rise of Skywalker

Disney is getting ready to say goodbye to the Star Wars sequel trilogy that started with The Force Awakens back in 2015, and so are the cast members. It’s hard to believe that this part of the story is over, like really over. It hasn’t hit me quite yet but I’m sure the minute I walk out of the theatre after watching Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I’ll be in tears.

While speaking to USA Today, Daisy Ridley, better known as Rey “She’s-definitely-a-Skywalker-right” NoLastName, spoke about how this final movie in the trilogy is going to feel very different from the last two, so much so that it might belong to a different genre altogether:

"Genre-wise, it’s different from the other two, which will become clear when the film comes out. It’s quite emotional. There’s a different drive than the previous two films, but there’s a lot of fun. I really missed John [Boyega] during the last one, but we’re back together and now Oscar [Isaac] is part of it. To me, it felt like kids going on an adventure."

As someone who just visited the Galaxy’s Edge theme park in Disneyland, I think I completely understand the whole “kids going on an adventure” thing. When you’re with your friends on the Millenium Falcon, there’s no better feeling in the entire world.

Ridley has been making the media rounds this past week. While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she said something that took my very breath away: get ready for an “epic” lightsaber battle. Girl, you just made our day in a way you’ll never understand.

We can expect the battle to be “redonkulous” in the words of Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother. Ridley promises that it will bring Kylo Ren and Rey face to face:

"We have a great fight. A great fight. And I was really happy that the Vanity Fair pictures did show a bit of it. It’s a great fight. Like I’ve become such a better fighter and they made the lightsabers lighter, so it actually looks like we’re swinging light and not like heavy, heavy [swords]."

Are you freaking out? Because I’m freaking out. May the force last us until December.

Next. What is The Rise of Skywalker going to do with Rey’s parents?. dark
