Gone but not forgotten

Bob Newby (Sean Astin) is still dead in Stranger Things 3, but we did get a quick flashback scene at the start of the season, and it was glorious. We first get a glimpse of Bob Newby via Will’s drawing of him on the fridge: “BOB NEWBY, SUPERHERO.”

But don’t worry, we didn’t just see Bob Newby as a drawing. In fact, Astin is actually in a very quick scene. We see him for a few seconds after Joyce tells Hopper she can’t come out with him and proceeds to eat dinner and watch some Cheers by herself. It triggers memories of her and Bob eating and watching the show together. That scene hurt, I won’t lie.

We see Astin as Bob one more time in episode 3, but I have to admit, it was too soon to go back to the spot that we saw him take his last few breaths. A quick glimpse of Bob is enough to break our hearts, but hey, at least he showed up. That counts for something, right?
