Where did the Russians get a Demogorgon?

After the Russian soldiers pass over “the American,” they locate the prisoner they’re actually looking for, drag him down a lot of stairs, and lock him in a room with a Demogorgon. And even if we might have missed the Demogorgons this season, it’s a bit strange that the Russian military has one on standby. Where did it even come from?

It’s possible that the Demogorgon is just another monster from the Upside Down that got trapped on the wrong side of the gate. At this rate, Eleven and the others are never going to round up all of them. (Although, if the Mind Flayer just disappeared when they closed it, shouldn’t any other remaining monsters have done the same?)

On a scarier note, the Russian military could also have located and opened another entrance to the Upside Down. But if that gate isn’t in Hawkins, how would our main characters find out about it in season 4? And if it’s all the way in Russia, that raises even more questions. For one, how will Dustin’s walkie talkie cover that sort of distance?
