Taika Waititi will return to direct Thor 4

Thor will return in a fourth movie, guys! Okay, we knew that already, but after how hilarious Thor: Ragnarok was, I cannot contain my excitement. The best part is the news that Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is coming back to tackle the next leg of the God of Thunder’s story!

Honestly, Ragnarok was my favorite, so this is such wonderful news. Unfortunately, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this does mean that production has been pushed back on Warner Bros.’ long-gestating live-action version of Akira, which Waititi was also slated to direct.

But I’ll get over it. My biggest question about Thor 4 is whether the character will have changed much since we last saw him in Avengers: Endgame, where he was getting over a bit of a sad sack phase and teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. That version of Thor is hilarious and entertaining, but Chris Hemsworth’s original, less comedic take on the character is iconic.

Not that Ragnarok didn’t have plenty of comedy. It also had a lot of ’70s-era psychedelic tripiness, complete with Led Zeppelin on the soundtrack. That’s a unique sensibility that Waititi brought to he movies, and I hope we get more of it in Thor 4.

And of course, there’s the question of whether any of the Guardians will make an appearance in the fourth installment. It would only make sense that we catch up with the God of Thunder not long after the events of Endgame, but the Guardians have their new movie coming. Will they just star in each other’s movies now, or will they split up?

I trust whatever ideas Waititi has. Get hype.
