Richard Madden says the Red Wedding was his “favorite death scene”

Richard Madden has a come a long way since he bowed out as Robb Stark on Game of Thrones. Hot off costarring in the well-review Elton John biopic Rocketman, Madden will become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and others in The Eternals. All this and he had a star-making turn as the titular character in the BBC’s Bodyguard. It suffice to say, he is killing it.

Speaking of killing it, Madden recalled some of his favorite death scenes over the years with W Magazine. There’s nothing he loves more than a good death scene, and naturally, his favorite is his own at the Red Wedding. “I love a good death and I’ve had a few really good deaths in my time,” he said — this is a guy who played Romeo twice on stage, so he knows his way around a death scene. “I think Game of Thrones and the Red Wedding was a pretty good one. I think it’s going to be my favorite death.

"Full of arrows, and then you know, you get your heart stopped, and then they cut your head off. It’s all fun and games isn’t it, just covered in fake blood and limbs hanging off. Then the fake blood takes a while to get off and you’ve kind of got stained red for a while. That was the last Game of Thrones scene I shot, it was the last day on set for the whole crew, and it was the end of my journey for Game of Thrones so emotionally you had everything that was going on with the character, and then yourself where you’re saying, “Okay this is my death on the show and my death with this family and this crew that I’m with.”"

Man, imagine that being the note you leave the set on. For those of us at home, there’s no forgetting Robb Stark’s gruesome end from “The Rains of Castamere” in season 3. I get nervous whenever I hear the song to this day.

From Robb Stark to a Golden Globe award-winning actor (for Bodyguard), Richard Madden has kicked some serious ass since his Game of Thrones days. And while he may have gone on to do all sorts of things, we will remember him as Robb Stark, the true King of the North, a character that we still left way too soon even these many years later.

Other quick Richard Madden trivia: his favorite movie growing up was Jurassic Park and his childhood crush was Cameron Diaz in The Mask. Make what use of these factoids as you can.
