Stranger Things season 3 was a big one for Billy, Dacre Montgomery’s angry, violent character. The Mind Flayer possessed him pretty early on, which led to him topping himself in the Evil Deeds department, fighting against our young heroes and leading people to their deaths.

At the same time, we also learned more about his past and what led him to be such a raging jackass. By the end, he even took a stab at redemption by trying to fight the Mind Flayer on behalf of Eleven, dying in the process. It was a rough journey, but given what he did, I think we can begin to forgive him for all the horrible things he said and did back in season 2.

And Montgomery did an amazing job in both seasons 2 and 3. After his debut performance in the Power Rangers movie, I didn’t really have any expectations, but he managed to surprise me.

Also gushing and admiring everything about him is his Stranger Things costar Millie Bobby Brown, who took to social media to give him a heartfelt shoutout. No better way to encapsulate Eleven and Billy’s journey then by showing them laying down in the middle of Starcourt Mall, clearly during the filming of the climactic finale scene:

I agree with her — he really does need to snag some awards for his performance this season. The guy killed it!

In an interview with The Independent, Montgomery went into detail about how he prepared to play the role of Billy in the third season, saying that he did research on bipolar disorders and split personalities. It definitely wasn’t a “reading over the script and winging it” scenario. “I wanted to treat it more like a real-world experience,” he said. “I think that’s why the show is so successful — it’s tethered to a science-fiction element, but it’s anchored very strongly in humanity.”

Montgomery also had a lot of wonderful and sweet things to say about Brown, and it reminded me just how adorable this cast is. They just might be my favorite of all time!

"She [Millie] has such an emotional maturity. I like to give 150 per cent every time I’m on set and she’s the same way. We just scream at each other and cry and talk about things. It was warm and collaborative, and I was lucky that I had an actor who could provide all that emotion. When she’s talking about my mother, it’s painful, and we had to keep having our eyes wiped down, for continuity, because of crying."

I’m not sure when Netflix is going to officially announce season 4, but I simply cannot wait to see more! Let’s hope there is some truth to the rumors about an October production start date.

Next. Stranger Things season 4 to begin filming in October?. dark
