American Horror Story: 1984 has a deadly new teaser

facebooktwitterreddit

The first teaser for American Horror Story: 1984 revealed our new characters, but didn’t have much in the way of real horror — just hints of it, really. The second one, however, is all about the killer.

And this is an inventive killer. From swimming up to take someone out in a kayak to hanging onto a car’s undercarriage with only one hand (the other is holding an obnoxiously large knife), they’ve got some creativity. Granted, this is a Ryan Murphy production. Outlandishness is practically the norm at this point.

For now, the camp seems to be at acceptable levels (for the most part). Check out the latest trailer and judge for yourself:

Seriously, how big is that knife? Is there any need for such a big one unless they’re about to take the tires out?

Let’s also talk about the music choices, though. “On the Dark Side” is a little on the nose for a show literally named American Horror Story; “Suddenly Last Summer” is all about a moment that was all-consuming, but is now gone for good. There’s no point in trying to read too much into this, but could there be some dual time period shenanigans happening here? From what we can see in this teaser, Camp Redwood is populated exclusively with teenagers. In the first one, there seemed to be actual camp staff, with Adina Porter’s character even wearing a stethoscope.

Perhaps Camp Redwood gets a rebrand after some gruesome murders, not unlike Friday the 13th‘s Camp Crystal Lake at certain points in the franchise? Entertainment Weekly and other outlets have definitely picked up on the echoes of the ’80s slasher series.

The idea of covering things up dates all the way back to American Horror Story season 1, with no one revealing to the Harmons that they’d just purchased the Murder House. AHS loves its recurring themes almost as much as it loves casting the same people over and over again.

Or maybe this second teaser doesn’t mean quite as much, just that there’s a lot of danger and murder with large knives. Take your pick.
