Sure, William Shatner would be in Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek movie, except…

Having already tackled the Old West, Hollywood and World War II, master filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has reportedly set his eyes on the final frontier and is looking to make an R-rated Star Trek film. And while Tarantino’s brand of dark humor and violence might seem incongruous with the PG-13 adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise , at least one Star Trek legend is ready to beam up for Tarantino’s vision: William Shatner, aka the OG Captain James T. Kirk.

Shatner announced his intentions in a recent interview with Reuters:

"Quentin Tarantino said something in the paper that somebody said to me, that he loved me. [looks into camera] And Quentin, I love you. If you’re going to do Star Trek 50 years later, a few pounds heavier, come on. Not a problem!"

Any Trekkie worth his Romulan Ale knows Shatner’s Kirk perished in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations, but death is hardly permanent in the Trek universe, so that wouldn’t stop him from returning.

Old age, on the other hand, could be an issue. “Well, I’d like to do it,” he said. “Whether I’d be up for it, I don’t know.”

Indeed, Shatner turned 88 this past March, so being put through the grind of a big movie production might be asking too much. Then again, maybe it doesn’t need to be a starring role. Maybe a cameo could work.

For his part, Tarantino told Deadline:

"I’m a big fan of the show Star Trek. I really like it a lot, but my portal into that show is William Shatner. I love William Shatner on Star Trek. I love his performance as James T. Kirk. That is my connection. That is my umbilical cord. It’s why I like Star Trek more than Star Wars, because William Shatner’s not in Star Wars. I think it’s one of the greatest performances in the history of episodic television, of a series lead, and rightly so, because very few series leads have ever gotten the opportunity to play all the different wild, crazy things. “The Enemy Within” alone."

That sounds like a match made in heaven if you ask us. Get it done, Hollywood!
