The Last Kingdom: A new look at Uhtred, plus King Edward on the field of battle

The Last Kingdom is halfway through filming its fourth season, and while the stars enjoy a much-needed summer break before getting back to the grind, they are picking up all sorts of side gigs. Let’s catch up with them.

But first, we travel back to the beginning of Netflix’s medieval drama, with a throwback photo of the cast as it began filming season 1. How young they look!

And in this behind-the-scenes photo, we have the Lord Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), doing what he does best: looking good on a horse.

Moving on, we get another behind-the-scenes look, this time at Timothy Innes’ King Edward, looking rather more regal than he did in season 3:

Proud onscreen mother Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith) shared another photo of Innes, in a rather more relaxed setting:

Elsewhere — which, come to think of it, kind of sounds like the name of a character on the show — Mark Rowley (Finan) reveals the inner struggle we all know too well: gym versus doughnuts. Be sure to scroll to the second pic.

The struggle is real.

At least for now, it appears Gym Man has won, as Rowley is looking rather fearsome on set as Finan:

Same thing goes here, where Finan and Arnas Fedaravičius (Sithric) look like they’re carving out a new kingdom for themselves:

James Northcote (Aldhelm), is also on vacation, although its debatable if he’s actually enjoying it. Food poisoning is no joke.

And finally, Adrian Bouchet (Steapa) trades in his broad sword for… board shorts?

We’d have never pictured the fearsome Steapa as a pitch man, but we actually ordered a couple pairs already, so clearly he’s good at it.
