Twelve takeaways from the script for the Game of Thrones series finale

Jon, Sansa, and “what’s west of Westeros”

Remember how Jon and Sansa both look a little confused when Arya asks them “What’s west of Westeros?” Cue the script direction: “Jon and Sansa look at each other. They both failed geography.”

Okay, Jon I can believe probably had to redo some geography at one point or another. But Sansa? She seemed like she did pretty well in tutoring and schooling, and she’s smart enough to pick up and run with the idea of restoring the North to an independent kingdom.

This line is pretty unnecessary and makes two characters look really dull for no reason. Thankfully, if you don’t read this line, you can just imagine that they’re confused because that’s a question that doesn’t have an answer.

Tyrion and those chairs

Remember the bit towards the end of the episode where Tyrion moves some chairs around before Bran’s small council arrives. The script goes into what he’s thinking here:

"He sits in the Hand’s chair. How the f*** did this happen? How the f*** did he end up here, alive, with power he no longer wants or believes he deserves? He glances around at the other chairs surrounding the table. Hmm. He stands up and does some rearranging. He’s not being theatrical about it like the time he dragged the chair to annoy Cersei. He just wants everything to be right this time."

This is the only time any curses appear in the non-dialogue text, incidentally.

Tyrion’s motivations make some sense here, although paired with some of the dialogue at the council meeting, it still reads as rather farcical.
