Tom Hiddleston teases what’s to come in Loki’s Disney+ series

It appears the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s God of Mischief has evaded death once more, as Loki will be heading to Disney+ with a new MCU series focusing primarily on him — an exciting way of switching things up, given that Loki has mostly served as a supporting character or villain throughout the first three phases of the MCU. And Tom Hiddleston will be reprising the role following a brief hiatus to perform in Broadway’s Betrayal, which kicks off on August 14.

The last we saw of Loki — at least the one we’ve gotten to know, anyway — Thanos was choking him to death. But in its time-traveling storyline, Avengers: Endgame introduces a Loki from a different universe who makes off with the Tesseract around the time of the first Avengers movie, when he was wrecking New York City. This Loki disappears into another timeline before any of the Avengers can stop him. It’s likely that it’s this version of Loki that we’ll follow in the upcoming series. Hiddleston himself pretty much gives the game away speaking to Entertainment Weekly: “It’s very, very exciting because in many ways it’s the character you know, but in a context you’ve never seen him in before,” he said. “And if I say any more, I’m gonna say too much.”

Based on the tiny glimpse we’ve gotten of the show, it looks like Loki’s new adventures will involve some time travel:

Loki running amok through history, making mischief. It’s a terrifying, delightful idea.

Speaking on the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Hiddleston left no room for doubt: “Just about the last thing that happened to him was he got Hulk-smashed. So, there’s a lot of psychological evolution that is still yet to happen.”

We all remember the Hulk-smashing, don’t we?

Loki will land on Disney+ in the spring of 2021. After Hiddleston’s recent comments, we’re almost excited as he is about the future of the MCU.
