Daario Naharis, the default ruler of the Bay of Dragons, has no reason not to forge his own small kingdom out of the remnants of Daenerys Targaryen’s former empire. The talented former Tyroshi sellsword has the Second Sons at his command and a local respect borne of becoming a champion of the Meereen fighting pits. He might even be able to persuade Grey Worm and the Unsullied to join him.

As Daario moves to establish his control, he immediately runs into fierce resistance: the Sons of the Harpy, seeking to take advantage of the power void left by Daenerys’ death, revolt once again. The threat of a Dothraki invasion constantly looms, and a spate of supernatural events forces Daario to lead expeditions into the ruin-filled and haunted Dothraki Sea. He is joined by the mysterious woman named Quaithe of the Shadow, a magical being who becomes both a foe and a lover.
