The mystery of the “Snyder cut” of Justice League continues

Ah, Justice League. The movie that had so much potential but failed to meet the hype and expectations of DC fans around the world. As most of us know, the movie was originally meant to be directed by Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, but due to tragic, unforeseen circumstances, he had to back out.

Someone had to come in and finish the movie. Enter Avengers director Joss Whedon. Adjustments, reshoots, and the like were made to Snyder’s work, and the movie was ushered out into theaters, but not even Whedon could save it from a critical drubbing. It was rough, and we’ll leave it at that.

Only we can’t, because almost as soon as Justice League came out, rumors started to fly about a “Snyder cut” of the movie that would have kept the director’s original vision intact.

So the burning question is: Does a full-length (or some length) version of Snyder’s Justice League cut exist? According to Kevin Smith, who spoke on Cinemeblend’s Reelblend podcast, there just might be. He claims to have some “insider scoop” that leads him to believe there really is a Snyder cut out there somewhere. And according to what he’s heard, the cut isn’t exactly something that could be released into theaters for us all to see. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be part of a special digital/disc release.

If this copy does indeed exist, then based on what he investigated himself, it would seem the cut is in its very raw stages with visual effects missing and green screens still appearing in some scenes. Given all of this, Smith believes that if this cut does indeed exist somewhere in the Warner Brothers archives, then they’d be remiss not to release it in some form. And I totally agree.

I mean, why not? It’s not like we’ve never seen what raw footage of a movie looks like. No one’s expecting the cut to magically make the movie great — that ship has sailed — but it would  satisfy curiosity that’s been building among fans for years.
