Outlander fans, we know we have quite a bit of the Droughtlander left to get through, but never fear, there’s plenty to keep us going until it comes to an end next year (ugh, that hurts to type out). Just lately, there are several exciting things happening regarding the upcoming fifth season. They don’t really tell us anything definitive, but they provide plenty of fodder for speculation.

First up, as brought to our attention by Outlander fansite ClaireandJamie.com, KR Management has gotten a pair of three-year-old twins cast on the show:

Outlander season 5 is based on the fifth book in Diana Gabaldon’s novel series, The Fiery Cross. That book features a pair of characters named Josiah and Keziah Beardsley, identical twin brothers. But the ages of the three-year-old actors don’t match up, so we’re probably not looking at Josiah and Keziah here.

More likely, these two kids are probably playing the same character, but switching off so we only see one of them at a time, as happened with the Olsen Twins in Full House.

So who are the kids playing, then? They’ll likely either play the role of the Frasers’ grandson Jemmy (child of Brianna and Roger) or Fergus’ son, Germain. The official verdict is still out!

Next up, we have another new cast member for season 5: Mark Barrett, who wasted no time in sharing a photo from the set.

His tweet doesn’t tell us much regarding which character he’s playing, but once again, it’s fun to guess? Popular fan opinion has it that Barrett could be playing Dougal MacKenzie and Geillis Duncan’s son, William “Buck” MacKenzie, based on his physical appearance. I would love for that to be the case, because it’s been a minute since we’ve had mention of either of these characters on Outlander.

Last but not least, it appears that Àdhamh Ó Broin, who served as a Gaelic consultant on the show early on, is back on set:

Now, the Fraser clan is currently in North Carolina — we haven’t been back to Scotland in a hot minute, so why would the show need a Gaelic consultant? I can’t help but wonder if Outlander is taking us back to Scotland for season 5, which I am incredibly in favor of. That could well be the case, considering there has been some filming back at Midhope Castle, which has stood in for Jamie Fraser’s home, Lallybroch.

And since we know that Jamie’s sister Jenny and her husband Ian are still there…that may explain quite a bit. Laura Donnelly, who plays Jenny Fraser, has been MIA from Outlander because of prior commitments. Does this mean she could return, as well? Returning to Scotland in season 5 would be a departure from the books, but I wouldn’t complain.
