Could Idris Elba return as Heimdall in Thor 4?
All of the recent announcements about Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and particularly the news of the Natalie Portman-led Thor: Love and Thunder — have reignited interest in the MCU…not that it ever really flagged.
And fans aren’t the only ones who have perked up. Idris Elba, who played the supporting role of Heimdall throughout the Thor franchise, also expressed a newfound interest in reprising the part after hearing all of the excitement surrounding Thor 4.

Of course, if Marvel wanted to bring Heimdall back for Thor 4, it would have to get around the small problem of him dying at the top of Avengers: Infinity War — recall, if you will, that Thanos kills him along with Loki when he attacks the Statesman looking for the Space Stone, although Heimdall managed to zap the Hulk down to Earth before perishing.
Still, this is the MCU we’re talking about here, so I suppose anything is possible. “Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family,” Elba told ABC Radio. “So you know, he essentially could be alive. I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there! The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology…And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive. Of course I would. Yes.”
What do you all think? Would Heimdall coming back to life in Love and Thunder lessen his heroic final act that sent Hulk to Earth in Infinity War? Let’s discuss.
