Sherlock star Andrew Scott joins the cast of His Dark Materials
Actor Andrew Scott has joined the cast of HBO’s His Dark Materials show. Scott is probably best known and starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock, where he played the evil Professor Moriarty.
He’ll probably be a shade less flamboyant in His Dark Materials season 2, where he’ll be playing Colonel John Parry.
And before you start wondering, no, you haven’t missed the first season of the show. Even though it hasn’t aired yet, HBO has already greenlit a second season.
Anyway, Colonel John Parry is the father of Will Parry, a key character introduced in The Subtle Knife, the second of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials novels. Colonel Parry is an explorer who disappeared from Will’s life early on. What became of him? For that you’ll have to watch the show…or read the books. They’re pretty short and they’re really good.
Amir Wilson has already been cast as Will Parry. Since each season of His Dark Materials will cover only one book from Pullman’s trilogy, we probably won’t see him until season 2, either.
There’s no official release date for His Dark Materials as of yet, but we know it will land on HBO this fall…so be on the lookout.
