Ezra Miller: A solo Flash movie is “absolutely confirmed”
By Dan Selcke
We all know how successful the Marvel Cinematic Universe is. Warner Bros. saw, too, and coveted Marvel’s success, and vowed to make its own superhero cinematic universe with DC characters. And lo, it was…alright. Man of Steel was okay, Batman v Superman was a bust, Wonder Woman was pretty good, and so on.
One of the biggest disappointments for Warner Bros. was Justice League, which was supposed to be their big Avengers-style coming out party. Alas, it underperformed at the box office, and suddenly the studio’s future plans were called into question. Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot stuck around as Aquaman and Wonder Woman, but Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill exited the roles of Batman and Superman, with planned projects starring the two either scrapped or rethought. (Hello, Robert Pattinson vampire bat.)
There were also plans for a movie revolving around Ezra Miller’s take on the Flash, but in the disarray following Justice League, it wasn’t clear it those were dropped. Speaking to W Korea, Miller confirmed that they are still on track:
First, let’s all take a moment to absorb Miller’s aesthetic. Okay, we good? Here’s the pertinent quote:
"Well, I’ll tell you the ones that I can tell you about, because they’re absolutely confirmed [They] are Fantastic Beasts 3… The Flash movie… I’m making more music with Sons of an Illustrious Father, the band I’m in. And I’m also making some music on my own."
So there you have it: one way or another, The Flash movie is “absolutely confirmed.” Can Miller do the costumes? I’d pay extra for that.
Now, this news isn’t too surprising, as IT director Andy Muschietti and Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson were recently brought on board the project. Still, with the DC Extended Universe in constant flux, that didn’t guarantee anything. Neither does Miller’s comment, really, but it is something to go on. He’s long been passionate about this character. “Nothing is ever certain in this world, but as certain as things get, we’re making a f-cking crazy-dope Flash movie,” Miller told Playboy last year. “It’s one of my great life dreams, and just the fact that we’re on the way—anyone who knows about Barry Allen knows he may arrive late, very late, but once he gets there, it’s all solved. We have to trust.”
Okay, trust we will.
