Jeremy Renner lobbies for Spider-Man’s return to the MCU
By Corey Smith
The Avengers are all about teamwork, so when the news broke that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) would no longer be allowed to appear in movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his fellow freedom fighters were quick to leap to his aid.
Well, one of them posted something on social media. Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) was quick to comment on the news via his Instagram:
"Hey @sonypictureswe want Spider-Man back to @therealstanlee and @marvel please, thank you #congrats#spidermanrocks #🏹 #please"
Spider-Man does indeed rock, but will he ever rock alongside the likes of Hawkeye again?
The Sony/Disney deal was pretty unique; Sony agreed to let Marvel use Spider-Man in its Avengers movies in exchange for Marvel chief Kevin Feige producing solo Spider-Man movies for Sony. By this point, Holland’s take on the character is pretty well embedded in the MCU, and we fully endorse Renner’s plea to keep him in the fold.
Ryan Reynolds, aka Deadpool, also chimed in on the news:
How much does Reynolds charge for admission to his heart? Are the prices competitive with AMC theaters?
Disney now owns the rights to the Deadpool franchise, too, by the way; it picked them up when it bought Fox earlier this year. It also got the rights to use X-Men characters. Spider-Man is the odd superhero out.
Of course, Disney and Sony could always work something out down the road, but for now it appears Spider-Man is again flying solo, for better or worse.
