Doctor Who has been a cultural phenomenon for decades, but many Whovians got their start with the reboot in 2005, with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor and Bille Piper as his companion, Rose Tyler. And things really got going when David Tennant came in as the tenth Doctor. Many of his episodes modern classics. Don’t blink, etc.
Tennant’s chemistry with Piper was crucial to the success of those seasons. Piper bid farewell to the role of Rose Tyler in 2008, in “Journey’s End.” Basically, Rose ends up reuniting with the Doctor after a separation, but then ends up living in a parallel universe with his half-human clone. I recall raising an eyebrow at that at the time, and as it turns out, Piper has some misgivings, too! “I hated that!” she told Doctor Who Magazine.
Piper explains her feelings by way of an analogy I just love: “In the same way that when I watched Beauty and the Beast – the Disney cartoon – I hated it when the Beast turned into the man, I always wanted to be the beast, and her be in love with the beast,” she said. “I feel like this is the same sort of loss! Like, it’s kind of a good thing, but it’s not the same. He seemed like a lesser version, didn’t he?”
Yes, he did. And considering Rose and the Doctor seemed very much in love, it sucked to see the relationship end this way. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to stay with the actual Doctor?! Well, apart from the fact Piper was leaving the show, but you know what I mean.
“I think it was just his outfit,” she continued. “He wore a t-shirt instead of a tie and shirt, and so somehow I took him less seriously!”

While we can’t change anything about the way Rose left the show, we can join Piper in hoping that one day there could be a Rose-and-Pseudo Doctor spinoff. I think that’d be great. I’d absolutely love to see what they’ve been up to all this time.
"I would like to see a one-off dark comedy about Rose and the Doctor in the parallel universe. But instead of it being really sci-fi, it can have an element of sci-fi but it’s very much about their romantic relationship and what’s happened to them in the time since we’ve left them. Just them cohabiting; their normal environment."
I’m here for it.
