Dark Fate could kick off a new Terminator trilogy

The band is getting back together for another round of man vs machine in Terminator: Dark Fate, and I am officially psyched. After decades away from the Terminator franchise, Linda Hamilton is back as Sarah Connor, and boy does she look grumpy. Just the other day, Paramount gave us a sense on the havoc to come with a new trailer. Check it out!

Ever since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the franchise has been wallowing in mediocrity, with everyone from Christian Bale to Emilia Clarke stepping in and trying to take the mantle from Hamilton. Hopefully, that’s all about to change. In addition to Hamilton, Dark Fate will also feature Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular killer robot and Edward Furlong as Sarah’s son John. And if that wasn’t enough, legendary director James Cameron, who helmed the first two entries in the franchise, is serving as a producer.

From the trailer, it looks like we’re in for quite the thrill ride. Planes, trains and automobiles (and a couple helicopters) are used like battering rams, and there’s more machine gun fire and grenade explosions than we can keep track of. Being a Terminator film, there will of course be a new version of the killer cyborg, this time played by Gabriel Luna. Other newcomers include Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Tom Hopper and Diego Boneta.

Cameron, who is neck deep in producing approximately 17,000 Avatar sequels, hinted that Dark Fate might just set up a new trilogy of films. “We rolled up our sleeves and started to break out the story and when we got a handle on something we looked at it as a three-film arc, so there is a greater story there to be told,” he told Deadline. “If we get fortunate enough to make some money with Dark Fate we know exactly where we can go with the subsequent films.”

If Dark Fate ends up being half as good as the trailer, we might just get that new trilogy. Dark Fate blasts its way into theaters on November 1.

Next. The first poster for Disney’s WandaVision looks really weird. dark
