Here’s when Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi show is set on the Star Wars timeline
Disney had plenty of Star Wars announcements in store for fans at its D23 Expo this year, but one of the most exciting moments was the confirmation of the long-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+. Ewan McGregor himself made an appearance to let fans know that he’d be reprising his role as the Jedi Master, although that’s all the news fans really got at the conference.
But a recent episode of The Star Wars Show — which is put out on the official Star Wars YouTube channel — seems to confirm when the Obi-Wan miniseries will take place on the Star Wars timeline. Apparently, the show will pick up with Obi-Wan eight years after Revenge of the Sith. This means the series will take place almost a decade after the prequel trilogy and about a decade prior to the beginning of Luke Skywalker’s story in A New Hope.
Landing in the middle like that, it looks like fans will miss out on Obi-Wan coping with the fallout of Anakin’s actions and the destruction of the Jedi Order. It’s also unlikely we’ll get to see the immediate aftereffects of the Empire’s rise to power, but given that the series will take place well before Luke and his companions defeat Emperor Palpatine, fans are still bound to see some resistance to his hegemony stirring, even if it’s only in passing.
This also begs the question of who the series’ antagonist will be. Given that the Sith will be in the seat of power during this time period, we’re bound to see a few of them show up. But how Obi-Wan will play into all of it remains unclear for now.

And it looks like we’ll have a while to wait before any in-depth details about the story come out. Production on the series is meant to begin next year, and the show won’t begin streaming until at least 2021. On the bright side, Star Wars fans will at least be able to keep themselves busy with the release of The Mandalorian in November and The Rise of Skywalker in December.
