Life on Mars star John Simm confirms role in Game of Thrones prequel

Blood Moon, HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, is back in the news today as English actor John Simm (Life on Mars, Doctor Who) revealed that he had a role in the show’s pilot episode.

Simm talked about his experience on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, on Virgin Radio UK. “hey didn’t give me a quiz ,” he said of the process, “but I did have to download every single episode and watch it all in about a month.” Sounds good to us.

Naturally, Simm didn’t give away anything big, but rather confirmed stuff we already knew, like how production on the pilot had wrapped and how the show is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. “he series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,” reads HBO’s official description. “And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

He joked that revealing even that much could cost him dearly. “So I’m just in the pilot! You will see my decapitated head in episode 2!”

Just last week, we learned that Vikings star Tadhg Murphy (Arne) also appears in the pilot in an unnamed role. The pilot was done filming weeks ago but we’re still getting news. Is this the last spurt for a while or the beginning of a torrent?

Anyway, Simm and Murphy join an impressive cast that includes Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, Alex Sharp, Shiela Atim, Marquis Rodriguez, Toby Regbo, Georgie Henley, Georgina Alice Campbell, Josh Whitehouse, Denise Gough, Naomi Ackie and Ivanno Jeremiah. We don’t know how important all of these actors will be to the overall story, but HBO is aiming high with the sheer number of characters it wants to include.
