Preproduction on Outlander season 6 already underway

Outlander fans, the next Droughtlander may not be as long as we’ve endured in the past. Well, that’s the hope anyway. As reported by Claireandjamie.com, it looks like showrunner Matthew B. Roberts is already thinking ahead to season 6.

Roberts tweeted a picture of Diana Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes, the sixth book in the Outlander novel series. The upcoming fifth season will adapt The Fiery Cross, the fifth book in the series. Given that each season has adapted one book, there are only so ways to take this post.

“Been busy lately,” Roberts writes. I’ll bet you have.

If you look closely at the image, you’ll see that Roberts has marked pages with lots of sticky notes. I have no idea what they represent, but clearly Roberts is taking his time, hopefully to get all of the story beats just right when he and the Outlander team adapt them for TV.

Fans of Gabaldon’s book series know what adventures lie ahead in the sixth book, but for those of us who haven’t read the books, we’ll have to wait it out…or we could read the books in our spare time. We don’t lack for options.

Season 5 of Outlander is currently in production, but it’ll all be wrapped up in time for the February 16 premiere date on Starz. That’ll be just over a year since the last episode of season 4 ended. With season 6 preproduction already underway, I’m hoping the Droughtlander will be a little bit shorter the next time around.
