Doctor Who: Ravenous 4 trailer gives us an exciting glimpse of the four Masters

A trailer has been released for the upcoming Doctor Who box set Ravenous 4, and it sounds incredibly exciting! Here’s why we’re anticipating the latest Eighth Doctor box set.

With less than a month to go (we hope) until the release of Ravenous 4 – the latest box set in The Eighth Doctor Adventures audios – Big Finish have recently released a brand new trailer for it. And it’s an incredibly exciting one, too.

Obviously, one of the biggest draws for this box set is – along with presenting the finale to the Ravenous story arc – the two part story Day of the Master, featuring four incarnations of the Doctor’s greatest enemy. Unsurprisingly, the trailer features brief glimpses of when these incarnations interact with each other, as they plot the death of their greatest enemy.

"Gomez Master: My, you chaps are in a right old pickle, and no mistake!Jacobi Master: I’d like to outline my plan!Beevers Master: Well, go on!Roberts Master: Are we going to kill the Doctor, or what?"

Speaking of multiple villains, we also have the Master meeting the Eleven. While not as major as Geoffrey Beevers, Eric Roberts, Derek Jacobi and Michelle Gomez all meeting each other, it’s still exciting for two major enemies of the Doctor to finally meet. With four Masters and the Eleven keeping a very dangerous secret, who will be the greater threat for the Doctor to deal with?

A long awaited reunion

But what’s particularly exciting is the Eighth Doctor meeting Eric Roberts’s incarnation of the Master for the first time since the TV movie – over 23 years ago. It’s a reunion that sounds extremely exciting, and the Master almost sounds happy to meet his old foe. Almost.

"Doctor: Well, well. The Master.Master: Oh Doctor, I’ve missed this! All our conversations, the one upmanship, it’s been too long! It’s good to be back."

Like his appearance in The Diary of River Song: Series Five, Eric Roberts’s Master seems a little more restrained, even more classical than what we saw in the TV movie. Then again, Roberts’s Master worked well for quite a significant portion of his original appearance. However, the moment he “dressed for the occasion” rather overshadowed that. Still, I’m keen to hear him face the Eighth Doctor once more.

The more I find out about Ravenous 4, the more exciting it sounds. The sooner it’s released, the better!
