Alfie Allen: Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series — “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken”

Speaking of unsung actors, dear god, how does Alfie Allen not have his own show? Or maybe he could he play the world’s greatest Hamlet? ANYTHING to show off this guy’s incredible talent.

Allen lucked out with a character like Theon, who goes through a hugely eventful arc during his time on the show. Allen was good as Theon 1.0, who was all smirks and unearned confidence. But it wasn’t until he was captured, tortured and reprogrammed by Ramsay Bolton that we saw what Allen could really do. Theon emerged from that experience as Reek, a fragile, frightened man completely beholden to his master. But Allen always suggested Theon struggling to break out.

Allen was excellent in seasons 7 and 8 as well, when he emerged as a new man, neither Theon 1.0 nor Reek. But he shot off the most fireworks in season 5, when Theon’s reunion with Sansa Stark slowly brought him back to himself. Allen didn’t get an Emmy nomination until the show’s final season, but he should have been a perennial contender.
