The 100 is getting a prequel series on The CW

The 100, a post-apocalyptic fantasy about a bunch of criminal adolescents dumped back on a ravaged Earth from a spaceship orbiting the planet, is coming to an end with its seventh season, but the story isn’t quite over yet. According to Deadline, The CW will continue exploring this world in a prequel series.

Personally, I’m ecstatic about this because I’ve always wondered what happened before the events of the main show. Why were they in space? How did they end up there? How did they manage a life up there? So many questions, right?!

The currently untitled prequel will take place about 97 years before the show as we know it. We’ll see the nuclear apocalypse that wiped out most life on Earth and how the survivors made a home for themselves on the Arc. The origin story will finally be told in detail!

I know we live in a world with too many prequels and reboots. The 100 has become a fan favorite series, and it might be hard to get those fans to trust that the new show will live up to the example set by the old. At the least, we can all breathe easy knowing that The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg will be the executive producer for the prequel! He knows what the fans are looking for and will surely do everything possible to make sure the show lives up to expectations.

That’s about all we know when it comes to the new series, but I’m sure we’ll learn more soon enough. In the meantime, the seventh and final season will premiere sometime in 2020 and consist of 16 episodes, one of which will be a backdoor pilot for the prequel.
