Netflix doesn’t start filming on the next season of Stranger Things until January of next year, which means we won’t be seeing it for a while. But when we do, there will be some new faces.
According to TV Line, a reliable industry site headed up by ex-Entertainment Weekly writer Michael Ausiello, the show will be adding four new male characters to the cast in season 4, although it’s maddening vague about the descriptions. Three of the new characters are teenagers: a metalhead, an entitled jock, and a stoner. True to form, Stranger Things is covering the whole gamut of teen movie cliches.
Then there’s an adult character. TV Line will only say that he “possesses characteristics that suggest that he will figure prominently in a certain storyline set far, far away from Hawkins.” That fits with what co-creator Matt Duffer has said about where the show is going.
"I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins."
Our best guess? Part of the story will take place in Russia, where Soviet operatives were last seen in season 3 ill-advisedly trying to open up a portal to the Upside Down, and at least partially succeeding. Sure, see how well that goes for you.

Stranger Things has added to its cast with each new season. Season 2 saw the introduction of Max (Sadie Sink), who quickly became a part of the core group. Season 3 introduced us to Robin (Maya Hawke), a clever member of the Scoops Ahoy team at the Starcourt Mall, and had a bigger role for Erica (Priah Ferguson), Lucas’s scene-stealing younger sister. It makes sense that the Duffers would keep that going, although we don’t know how big or small role these new characters will have.
