Why Marvel fans will need a Disney+ subscription moving forward

Disney+ is right around the corner. Although not available at launch, the new streaming service will sport several shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starring your favorite heroes and villains, including LokiWandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Basically, Phase Four of the MCU will include more than just movies. Speaking with Bloomberg, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige hinted that if fans want to continue riding the MCU rollercoaster, they’ll probably need to get a Disney+ subscription. If you want to follow these stories, you’ll need to watch both the shows and the movies, because they will be referring back and forth to each other. Feige mentioned, for example, events in WandaVision and Loki feeding into the events of the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, In The Multiverse of Madness. If you don’t watch the shows, then you’re probably going to be scratching your head during Doctor Strange.

Although granted, it’s possible we’ll be scratching our heads anyway during WandaVision, which by all accounts is pretty trippy. And how will the show bring Vision back after Thanos killed him?

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the version of Loki we’ll see in the show is the one that disappeared with the Infinity Stone during all the time travel chaos in Endgame. As far as Vision’s survival goes, your guess is as good as mine.

Another show coming to Disney+ is Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner as the man himself. But before it was going to be a Disney+ show, apparently Marvel was planning to do a Hawkeye solo movie. Things changed as the streaming service began to take form, and Renner was completely on board with doing something different.

So what do we think? Are the MCU shows just more content to get excited about, or is Disney holding these beloved characters’ stories hostage behind a Disney+ subscription fee?
