Doctor Who: Do we finally have a date for a Series 12 trailer?
By James Aggas
A new clip has hinted at…something related to Doctor Who being released on the show’s anniversary. Do we finally know when to expect a trailer for Series 12?
Today, the BBC released a short clip for Doctor Who. Following the release of an image of the Thirteenth Doctor’s shadow that simply said, “Watch this space”, the new clip is basically along the same lines, showing exactly the same words. However, across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, a date has been attached this clip: Nov. 23 2019.
Now, it is admittedly a little possible that this may not be for a trailer for next year’s series. But considering how much the BBC are building towards this – as well as the fact that the little teaser clip is actually called “Series 12” – it certainly seems promising.
On top of that, as many Doctor Who fans know, Nov. 23 is a major date for the series. Nov. 23 1963 was the date that the first ever episode, An Unearthly Child, was broadcast. So it’s a nice touch that they’re releasing it on that date.

Teasers of teasers
While the date’s appropriate, I’m not sure the constant teasers are. Yes, it’s usually appropriate to tease a trailer, but the last image was so vague and over a week ago, that it’s kind of frustrating to see a clip labelled “Series 12” that’s again just another teaser. Even more frustrating is that the date isn’t even included in the actual clip itself, just in descriptions or titles, depending on where it’s been uploaded. So the teaser itself doesn’t really tell us anything new.
Regardless, it is admittedly nice to know when we can look forward to seeing something relating to the upcoming series. Series 11 might not have been for me, but there’s no reason the same will be true for Series 12. For example, Chris Chibnall was heavily involved in the first two series of Torchwood, and the second series is arguably much stronger than the first. It’s possible the same could be true here. I’m excited to catch any glimpse of Jodie Whittaker’s second series by this point, at least.
In the meantime, I’ll be watching Season 10 of Classic Who on Blu-Ray, listening to Big Finish, and maybe give Series 11 another chance. Just anything to pass the time as we await more footage of brand new Doctor Who.
Are you excited for Series 12? Do you think the teasers are effective at pure buildup, or just overkill? With no Doctor Who on television, what are you doing to pass the time? Let us know in the comments below.
