John Oliver suggests some killer Game of Thrones prequels

Week after week, John Oliver breaks down the news of the day on Last Week Tonight, HBO’s premiere hard-hitting investigative journalism/silly musical comedy show. This past Sunday, he took a deep dive into SLAPP suits, a lawsuit filed not because it has merit but merely to keep the defendant from speaking up and exercising their rights. The whole thing is worth watching, but we’re gonna zero in on one joke Oliver makes about HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series. Watch below!
Okay, Oliver’s suggestions for prequels:
- Game of Thrones: The College Years
- Game of Thrones: Winterfell Valley High
- Throne Babies: The Battle for the Rattle
Would legit watch that third one.
HBO employs Oliver, obviously, but he’s always been willing to poke a little fun at the network, and at the massive telecommunications firm that now owns it. And couldn’t we all use some levity this morning as we try to get Disney+ to work?

In reality, HBO has ordered a Game of Thrones prequel show straight to series: House of the Dragon, all about the Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart some 150 years before the start of the base series. That comes after they cancelled another prequel show that would have been set much earlier. If all goes right, Throne Babies will remain on the backburner, but it never hurts to have a Plan B.
