New Sonic the Hedgehog trailer crawls out of the uncanny valley

Attend a tale only possible on the internet. A while back, Paramount released a trailer for a movie based on Sonic the Hedgehog. He looked uncanny and weird and kinda human, and people were scared.

The internet promptly exploded. Mothers hid their children, and Twitter sang with the music of outrage and bafflement. So the animators went back to the drawing board and fashioned a new Sonic, this one a lot less odd-looking. He probably won’t give you nightmares at all this time!

I feel bad that a completed movie had to have such drastic changes made to it, but I think it was for the better. Now we can enjoy our favorite childhood video game-made-movie in peace, without unquiet dread haunting us at night.

The new and improved version of Sonic the Hedgehog is actually comparable to its video game counterpart, and the internet is behind it.

When you compare old to new, you’ll see that the eyes are more cartoon-like and not so human, which is probably the right look for a cartoon animal. I think the eyes were the second creepiest part of the old version, next to the set of human teeth, which have also been toned down.

Due to the redesign of the main character, the movie’s release date delayed to February 14, 2020. This Valentine’s Day, will we all fall in love with a blue blur with attitude?

This ordeal goes to show that when fans voice their opinions, people listen, although my heart goes out to all the animators who had to put in double the work to make this happen.
