Check out gorgeous images from Netflix’s The Witcher

The Witcher is coming. Even with a ton of competition out there, Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels is looking like it could be something special.

The hype machine for the show is revving up. Netflix just released a bunch of new first look photos, ably cataloged by the wonderful people over at FarFarAwaySite. Let’s take a look!

First up, we have some lovely new angles on the titular Witcher, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill):

These first two photos are from the first episode, based on the story “The Lesser Evil” from The Last Wish. This next one is from Episode 3, where Geralt fights a fearsome striga.

I love that last one. I hope all the photography from the show is this gorgeous.

Geralt, like all witchers, is a professional monster hunter. He’ll be skulking in plenty of mysterious castles and glades before this series is done, don’t you worry. Although they provide a valuable service, they are not well loved among the people. Geralt, meet an angry mob:

Besides Geralt, the marketing for The Witcher has spotlighted two other characters. First, there’s Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), Geralt’s on-again, off-again sorceress love interest, and a force to be reckoned with whether on the battlefield or in conversation.

In that last one, Yennefer is with Queen Kalis of Lyria (Isobel Laidler). It looks like the show will explore some of Yennefer’s solo adventures before she meets Geralt. And below, we have a picture of Yennefer with Istredd (Royce Pierreson), who’s in competition with Geralt for her affections.

Also crucial is Princess Cirilla of Cintra, or Ciri (Freya Allan). She’ll start the show in a lap of luxury, but will go through some big changes by the end of it.

We’ll also see some of Ciri’s visions, like this one from Episode 4:

So pretty.

We’ll also meet Ciri’s grandmother, Queen Calanthe (Jodhi May), the ruler of Cintra:

Here she is with some of her court between takes in Episode 1:

Sir Lazlo (Maciej Musial) and a couple of Cintran knights ride through the streets before things get…well, you’ll see.

Below, we have Lars Mikkelsen as Stregobor, a sorcerer Geralt contends with in the premiere:

We have one image of Cahir (Eamon Farren), a soldier from Nilfgaard. Nilfgaard is a growing, hungry empire that plays a big role in the story.

Yes, it kind of looks like he’s wearing a crinkly black trash bag. Fix that for season 2, won’t you, Witcher costume team?

Finally, how haunting is this shot of a deer getting way too close to a swamp monster (a kikimore, to be specific)?

Run, dear, run!
