The Stag (season 2)

Renly was always the flashiest of the three Baratheon brothers. His sartorial choices accentuate his fondness for nice things — and his ability to flaunt his style in a way that makes him more appealing to the people of Westeros than either Robert or Stannis. His golden breastplate and crown make it obvious that Renly cares for appearances, but the rest of his outfit is pretty practical given the situation he’s in during season 2.

Camped out and preparing for war for the majority of the second season, Renly is ready to both receive visitors or face down threats. While the more lavish pieces of his outfits allow him to maintain an air of wealth and authority when addressing newcomers in his camp, the simple garments enable him to fight or protect himself if necessary. (Sadly, no amount of practically chosen clothing could have saved him from Melisandre’s shadow baby.)

The crown Renly wears, which bears antlers intended to represent the stag sigil of House Baratheon, resembles Joffrey’s and Tommen’s crown. It does seem larger and a bit more prominent on Renly, however, which might allude to the fact that his claim to the throne is stronger than either of Cersei’s sons’. But crown or no crown, Renly was never able to capitalize on his claim.
