The 50 most iconic looks from Game of Thrones
Lannister Patriarch (season 2)
Tywin Lannister is another one of those characters who does everything with style, but he looks particularly fashionable when he’s readying for a fight. During the early seasons of the show, fans see Tywin in armor several times, and the Lannister patriarch pulls of the wartime look well. Naturally, Tywin wears armor that has red and gold tones — a Lannister through and through. His breastplate even has the Lannister lion sigil on it. This is where Cersei got her fashion sense.
When Tywin arrives at Harrenhal in season 2, he also wears a sweeping red sash on top of his armor. This might be another attempt at flaunting his House, but it also marks him as the leader of the Lannister soldiers. With all of them wearing similar red and gold armor, Tywin’s sash and white horse are the only things that truly set him apart. And he’ll need to stand out if he’s going to command, especially at Harrenhal, when things are looking grim for his family’s cause.
Tywin wears a similar getup when he ambushes Stannis’ armies at the Battle of Blackwater Bay, another scene where his authority is unquestionable. Sure, Tyrion was able to hold King’s Landing for a little while, but Tywin is the one who ensured the Lannisters’ hold on the capital would endure for another six seasons.
