The Paramour (season 4)

Ellaria Sand’s costumes are some of the most interesting ones we see during the fourth season of Game of Thrones, likely because they’re so different from the ones worn by the proper and uptight ladies of King’s Landing. Not only does Dorne not adhere to the traditions of Joffrey’s court, but their styles seem to actively oppose those traditions.

And the costume Ellaria wears to Joffrey’s wedding ceremony is definitely a far cry from anything viewers ever see on Cersei, Margaery or Sansa wearing. Her gown is a darker shade of yellow, and it dips in the front to reveal an elaborately designed bra.

The revealing nature of this piece shows that the Dornish have incredibly different sensibilities than their northern neighbors. Oberyn says that, in Dorne, there’s no shame in having children out of wedlock, and there doesn’t appear to be any pressure on Dornish women to act reserved. Not only are they trained to fight, but they’re encouraged to indulge in pleasure and aren’t looked down upon for it.

Ellaria’s hairstyle here is also one of the most unique ones we see throughout the series, or at least, her splendid gold chain hairnet is. Put it all together, and you have one very memorable look.
