The Lioness (season 1)

First impressions are everything, and Cersei Lannister makes a memorable one in the show’s pilot episodeFrom the very beginning, there’s no question about which great House Cersei hails from, thanks in large part to her very first costume. The fully gold dress and cloak she wears — matched with her golden hair — makes her look like the lion from the Lannister sigil. Even the fur cloak she wears around her neck resembles a lion’s mane.

Cersei makes a point of sporting one of her own House colors during her trip to Winterfell, and it’s important to note that she doesn’t wear anything that could serve as a reference to the Baratheon family. This is an early sign of her refusal to submit to her role as Robert’s wife, asserting that she’s her own person.

Of course, this costume is pretty tame when you consider Cersei’s later choices. This is lacking the reds that she usually pairs with gold, or any jewelry or adornments with lions on them. Cersei’s earliest costumes were subtle digs at her husband, but her endorsement of House Lannister becomes more obvious after his death. During his life, she was forced to be sneakier about her allegiances.
