The 50 most iconic looks from Game of Thrones
The Dragon Prince (season 1)
Viserys Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne was laughable at best, but he certainly looked the role of a prince during the pilot episode of the series. Dressed in fine materials for someone so far east, Viserys attempts to showcase his House — and thus his right to the Iron Throne — through his wardrobe. And for someone who always placed more value on surnames and birthrights than exhibiting true leadership, that’s pretty much all Viserys had.
Notable is Viserys’ suede black vest with the Targaryen sigil sewn into the front of it. There’s also a dragon-scale pattern on the collar of the vest, an additional feature that’s likely intended to emphasize his role as “the last living dragon.” (We know that Viserys never considered Daenerys a true dragon, ironically enough.)
In hindsight, it’s also interesting that Daenerys, who always claimed to have values opposite of Viserys, eventually follows in his footsteps when it comes to her attire. In the later seasons, she attempts to underline her right to the throne by highlighting her Targaryen lineage, dragon-scale patterns and all. And we know where she got the idea from.
