The Executioner (season 1)
When Joffrey called for Ned’s head during “Baelor,” most fans were too enraged to pay much attention to what the young king was wearing. But the outfit Joffrey wears during Ned’s execution is one of the most stunning in the series — even if the person wearing it is among the ugliest on the show.
Much like the rest of his family, Joffrey has a habit of donning Lannister colors, and his costume during “Baelor” makes it abundantly clear which House is responsible for the temporary defeat of the Starks. He sports a leather robe in dark red with a cape over it. The cape is embroidered with a red-and-gold pattern, along with the sigil of House Lannister in red on its sides.
Joffrey’s color choices mirror his mother’s, during this scene and others, and it’s curious that he’s so intent on showcasing his connection to the Lannister line alone. We know that Robert is the only parent he truly sought approval from, and it doesn’t seem that Joffrey ever figured out that the late king wasn’t actually his father. It makes you wonder if Cersei chose his clothes for him, a symbolic display of unity that Tywin certainly would have approved of.
His crown, however, does have the antlers associated with House Baratheon on it. After all, his supposed relation to the Baratheon family is the only thing keeping Joffrey on the throne.
