Doctor Who November news roundup: Series 12, trailers and multiple Doctors
By James Aggas
From new trailers to multi-Doctor stories, here’s our summary of Doctor Who news during its anniversary month!
News and release wise, November has been a pretty major month for Doctor Who fans. It’s not surprising, considering that November 1963 saw the show began. (Which reminds me: I’m due for a re-watch of the beautiful documentary drama An Adventure in Space and Time.)
So it was rather fitting that, on the day of the show’s fifty-sixth anniversary, we finally got a brand new trailer for Series 12! There’s still no release date just yet (at least, not officially), but it’s definitely exciting to see something after waiting so long.
On top of that, we’ve also been given plenty of news about the series, too. According to Chris Chibnall, Series 12 will open with possibly “the biggest episode the show has done“, featuring casting as major as Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry.
As for the rest of the series, Jodie Whittaker promises that we’ll see “a level or a side to [the Thirteenth Doctor] that we haven’t seen yet“. On top of that, we’ve also learned that two-part stories are finally coming back! So from the looks of things, it seems that Series 12 is heading in the right direction!

Major releases
Away from the New Series, Classic Series fans in North America finally got to enjoy The Macra Terror on DVD, many months after its UK release. Featuring three different versions of the same story (two animations and one reconstruction), plus quite a few special features, it’s well worth checking out for fans of Troughton’s Doctor.
Beyond the TV series itself, this has been a particularly exciting month for Big Finish releases. The Fifth Doctor story Warzone / Conversion featured the Fifth Doctor’s reunion with the Cybermen and trying to face what happened in Earthshock.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
We also saw the Fifth Doctor in one of two new Lost Stories: stories that were originally written for television but were never made until now. Nightmare Country and Sixth Doctor story The Ultimate Evil provide interesting glimpses of how the series really used to be.
But I think the highlights this month are two new Early Adventures. The Home Guard features the Second Doctor going up against an early incarnation of the Master, while Daughter of the Gods has the far more dangerous problem of going up against his previous incarnation. Both stories are fantastic to listen to, and prove why The Early Adventures range of audios is so strong.
Overall, this month has been a rather exciting one for Whovians. With major trailers, multiple Doctors and reunions with old enemies, we’ve had a lot to enjoy. But what news and announcements will the final month of 2019 bring…?
