Supergirl Episode 508: “The Wrath of Rama Khan”
Supergirl is the first of this week’s Arrowverse episodes so far to actually include a segue into next week’s Crisis on Infinite Earths. Thank goodness for that! But before we get there, let’s talk about what “The Wrath of Rama Khan” had in store for us this week.
After everything that has gone down between Kara and Lena, including Lena’s most recent betrayal, Kara is in denial about Lena’s behavior. I know Supergirl likes to see the best in everyone, but we’re talking about a Luthor here.
The only one who sees what is truly going on here is Alex. She’s not willing to let Kara feel all the guilt for what happened with Lena, which is why she takes it upon herself to use Kara to get to Lena. Did this stop Kara from trying to see the good in Lena? Nope! In fact, she was angrier over Alex’s betrayal. Come on, girl!
I have to say that the whole Rama Khan angle was a bit lost on me, and I’m not sure if I cared for him all that much. In any case, he was all about activating a volcano this week, so Supergirl and J’onn had to try and stop him. Meanwhile, J’onn’s new-and-improved, less villainous brother Malefic is getting trained by Alex and Brain to take down Myriad.
There is a victory be celebrated after Supergirl and J’onn take down Rama Khan. But again, do we really care? I sure don’t.
Okay, so how did Supergirl connect to the Crisis? As the episode came to an end, the Monitor shows up to to pay J’onn a visit. Side note: I love that the Monitor isn’t just reaching out to the main characters; we’ve seen a lot of secondary characters interact with him including Lyla/Harbinger.
It turns out the Monitor was the reason Malefic got released from the Phantom Zone. He saw J’onn’s skills during Elseworlds, which is why he wanted him to face his past and his demons. Now that that’s over, he needs him for the Crisis.
But wait, there’s more. The Monitor’s next visit was with…Lex Luthor (Hi, Jon Cryer). For some reason, Lex is going to get the chance to be the hero he’s always wanted to be, although he claims he’s always been one. But before they can do anything, Lex wants to talk about Lena.
Okay Supergirl, I see you. While the episode itself wasn’t all that great, I did appreciate the Crisis teasers. It’s always nice to see hints of it before the big day finally comes.
