Arrow Episode 807: “Purgatory”
Arrow has been killing it in its final season. Week after week, it leaves us wanting more. And this go-round it wins the award for Best Arrowverse Episode of the Week.
We kick “Purgatory” with Team Arrow arriving in Lian Yu through various means. Roy, Dinah, and Rene fly in but don’t exactly have a successful landing on the island. Unfortunately, their plane crashes after something flies into it, and it costs Roy his arm. But don’t worry, it’s likely he’s going to end up with some cool robotic arm in the future.
Meanwhile, Oliver, Diggle, Lyla, Connor, William, and Mia are on Lian Yu already. Now, there was some speculation as to what timeline this episode was taking place in because episode stills showed two deceased characters. To clarify, the episode does not take place in the past and is very much in the present. The return of past characters Lao Fei and Edward Fryers is a fun treat, but they come back as ghosts. Yes, that’s right, ghosts. It’s basically another test Oliver has to face to ensure that he and his team are ready for the Crisis. And it’s also what sets up the epic moment at the end of this episode.
I thoroughly enjoyed the team fight scenes (people vs. ghosts!), Oliver finally getting through to Mia and bonding with her, and him making plans for his kids after he’s gone. He asked Diggle to tell Felicity to make sure Mia and William grow up together. How sweet is that?!
But there’s no time to get too emotional, because Lyla officially leaves the group behind and returns as…the Harbinger of all things to come, aka the Crisis. And rest assured, the Crisis is officially here, even in Lian Yu, which means it’s game on, Arrowverse fans. Brace yourself for Crisis on Infinite Earths, it’s going to be the best thing we’ve ever seen.

After months and months of waiting, anticipating, and theorizing, we are just days away from it. I have so many feelings (especially after the latest trailer) going into the Crisis, but I’ll reserve them for our Arrowverse episode breakdown next week. See you on the other side!
