What were the most-streamed shows of 2019? You can probably guess most of them. All the top television shows seem to be on streaming platforms these days. Think Stranger ThingsBlack MirrorMindhunter, and so on.

TV Time has done its calculations and ran their analytics, and has made a list of the 20 most streamed shows of the year. And I have to say, I’m surprised to see what made it and what didn’t, and better yet, what made the top five:

  1. Lucifer
  2. Stranger Things
  3. 13 Reasons Why
  4. Money Heist aka La Casa de Papel
  5. Orange Is The New Black
  6. The Handmaid’s Tale
  7. Sex Education
  8. Elite
  9. You
  10. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  11. The Umbrella Academy
  12. Black Mirror
  13. Dark
  14. Marvel’s The Punisher
  15. Atypical
  16. Love, Death & Robots
  17. Mindhunter
  18. Marvel’s Jessica Jones
  19. Big Mouth
  20. The Society

It’s almost impossible to imagine a time when streaming services were not a thing, and we’d have to rely on television networks to provide us with our must-see programming. As we close out the year — and the decade — it’s funny to look back and see just how much things have changed.

As of now, Netflix is leading with the most shows on this list, but something tells me that will change in the future as Disney+ begins to pick up steam. Once their Marvel Originals are out, all bets are off.

Coming in at #1 on the list is Lucifer, which doesn’t shock me all that much. After being canceled on Fox, the show found a new life on Netflix, at least for its fifth and final season. Fans were clamoring for someone to pick it up, and clearly, they were passionate enough to devour it when it finally came back.

Stranger Things came in second, which only surprises me because I would expect it to be first. Its third season did extremely well and was even the most streamed show for some time before Disney+’s The Mandalorian came around.

Orange is the New Black snagged the #5 spot, which is fair given its popularity and the fact that this was its final season. Was it better than some of the other shows before it? I’d say so, but I think breaking into the top five is quite the accomplishment, right?

YOUChilling Adventures of SabrinaThe Umbrella Academy, and Black Mirror nabbed ninth through twelfth place. I think there needs to be some switching around here, at least in my opinion. If it was up to me, Black Mirror would have been #10, Umbrella Academy at #11, and Sabrina at #12.

YOU definitely has had a strong fan following, especially since the shift from Lifetime to Netflix. Many of us can’t get enough of Penn Badgley’s creepy stalker character. I was glad to see it in the top 10.

The rest of the list (#13-20) sort of felt like an odd assortment of shows to me. I didn’t really see why some of them were on there. I was hoping to see The Crown show up, especially given the glut of Netflix series on here. It’s a strong show with a strong third season. I expected more people to be tuning in.

I will say that, in a world where people are beginning to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, there is something to be said about it having this many shows be this popular. It has more competition than ever before, but it’s still king.

Which of your favorites made the list? Which didn’t? Let us know!
