The Skywalker Saga is complete…for now. How do the nine mainline Star Wars films released so far stack up against each other?

Ever since 1976, when George Lucas supposedly hinted to Mark Hamill that he had as many as 12 episodes of Star Wars planned, rumors have swirled about what the series would look like if it ever expanded past six films. With this holiday’s release of The Rise of Skywalker, heralded by Disney as the end of the Skywalker Saga, fans can take a breath and look back on the “finished” series.

While it’s impossible to know if Rise will stick as the series’ conclusion (let’s not forget that Revenge of the Sith was also marketed this way), for the time being, we have a tentative end to the story. It’s been an amazing ride.

So how do the movies stack up to one another? While the original trilogy of films are still generally regarded as classics, both Lucas’ prequels and Disney’s sequels have had much more varied success.

Come on a journey to a galaxy far, far away…where Jedi wage epic battles for good, and Gungans wreak havoc on the emotions of unsuspecting viewers.
