The Mandalorian is a success over on Disney+, but that’s just the beginning of TV series based on franchises now held by Disney. There’s so, soooo much more to come, from more Star Wars shows to Marvel series and beyond.

For its next trick, Disney has reached into Lucasfilm’s back catalog and announced that it will be making a series based on Willow, the 1988 high fantasy movie directed by Ron Howard about a farmer (Warwick Davis) and a warrior (Val Kilmer) who team up to free the land from an evil queen (Jean Marsh). Fantasy is all the rage these days, so this should fit right in there.

Now, it looks like work on the show has begun, if this tweet from writer Jon Kasdan is any indication:

That’s the main character himself, Willow Ufgood, on that little hat pinned to the bulletin board. Looks like Kasdan is putting together a writer’s room or something.

Howard himself has hinted that he could be involved with this. He and Kasdan already worked together on Solo: A Star Wars Story. By the way, if the name “Kasdan” sounds familiar, it’s because Jon Kasdan is the son of Lawrence Kasdan, the guy who wrote Star Wars: The Empire Strikes BackIndiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc, and The Force Awakens, among a bunch of other projects.

By the sound of it, the Willow show will pick up after the end of the movie. Does that mean that actors like Davis and Kilmer could return? At the least, we’ll surely get to see a grown-up version of Elora Danan, the infant Willow and Kilmer’s character spend the original movie protecting.
