Lucifer, a show about the devil (Tom Ellis), premiered on Fox back in 2016. It developed a passionate fanbase, so of course Fox did their Fox thing and cancelled it. Happily, Netflix was around to swoop in and save the series. And now, the little satanic show that could is gearing up for its fifth and final season.

And the show is upping the ante for this last plunge, finally casting someone in the role of God: 24 star Dennis Haysbert. “We did like the big crazy list of [possible actors for the part], and he was my top choice,” Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson told Entertainment Weekly. “We were lucky. It was our first and only offer.”

Bringing on Haysbert also means that Lucifer will host a 24 reunion. On Lucifer, D.B. Woodside plays the role of Amenadiel, Lucifer’s angelic brother and their Father’s favorite son. On 24, Woodside and Haysbert played Wayne and David Palmer, who both ended up being president, if you want a reminder of how crazy that show was. In fact, Woodside helped Haysbert snag the role of the almighty on Lucifer. “Every time I see D.B., there’s always this fondness and this connection,” Haysbert said. “We worked on a show that was arguably one of the best shows ever produced in television, so you’re going to have a kind of camaraderie. I don’t know how I went from brothers to father. We’re celestial. We can do that.”

Technically, Neil Gaiman provided the voice of God in a Lucifer episode in season 3, but this is the first time He’ll appear in the flesh. Gaiman, for the record, created this incarnation of the character in his Sandman comic books, which Netflix is adapting as a separate series. Crossover?

We’ll see. The final season of Lucifer starts later this year. It opens in hell.

Next. Rick Grimes movies will take The Walking Dead in “wild new directions”. dark
